Designer ( 03) - Architect George Hargreaves

 George Hargreaves

George Hargreaves is a well known landscape architect. His designs are  identical and sustainable.  He taught at Harvard university for 20 years. He won many world recognised awards. Later days he started a company called " Hargreaves Jones".Able to see the new ideas and the more features in his designs. I personally love 2 designs to review. first one is the ZARYADYE PARK Moscow, Russia and Elizabeth Caruthers park Portland , USA. 

1. ZARYADYE PARK Moscow, Russia

This is the first large scale  park in Moscow, Russia.Landscape design and the master plans have been designed by Hargreaves Jones company. Urban plaza,children play area, Social place, natural landscape and amazing interior and exterior designs are providing a best look for this park context.There is a hanging cantilever bridge or the viewing area is boosting the beauty of the park. I love this design because of the centralised identity. Path- ways are interconnecting with the circular arrangement.This park will be a good memorable context for 100 years because of the space allocation. 

The glasses in the auditorium are doing one important job: keeping plants green for longer days. These motorised glasses will automatically open on summer days and will keep the warm air inside on cold days. Zaryadye park is a good example for Wild Urbanism. 

 

2. Elizabeth Caruthers park Portland , USA. 

Elizabeth Caruthers Park in Portland, USA, is a contemporary urban oasis designed by renowned landscape architect George Hargreaves. Opened in 2012, the park covers a former industrial site with a dynamic blend of green spaces, playful features, and sustainable elements.

 Its design emphasises community gathering with a central plaza, amphitheatre, and picnic areas. Native plantings, rain gardens, and permeable surfaces contribute to stormwater management and biodiversity. The park's layout encourages social interaction and relaxation, offering stunning views of the city skyline and access to the adjacent South Waterfront District. Elizabeth Caruthers Park stands as a model for modern urban park design.
